Terms of service
Last updated: 5 November 2026
Draft. These terms are a starting point and have not been reviewed by a lawyer.
Who we are
shhnote.com (“this site”, “we”, “us”) is a hosted instance of the open-source shhnote software. By using it, you agree to these terms.
What the service does
You can create encrypted notes and file uploads (“secrets”) and share them with a link. A secret is deleted when it expires or, if you choose a one-time secret, as soon as it has been opened once.
Your responsibilities
You must not use this site to:
- share anything that is illegal where you or the recipient live;
- share malware, or content meant to deceive, harass or harm others;
- break into, overload or disrupt the service or the people who use it.
The acceptable use policy spells this out. Because secrets are encrypted in your browser, we can’t see what you share. You are responsible for what you send and for who you send it to.
No guarantees
We work hard to keep the service available and secure, but it is provided “as is”. We can’t promise it will always be online, and a secret may become unavailable before it expires. Don’t use the service as the only copy of anything important.
Liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss caused by using the service, including secrets that are lost, opened by the wrong person, or not delivered.
Ending access
We may block access to the service for anyone who breaks these terms.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the service means you accept the new terms.
